Mark Chapter 1
Mar 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ,
Mar 1:2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way:
Mar 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Mar 1:4 It was John who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Mar 1:5 And there went out to him all the country of Judea and all they of Jerusalem and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mar 1:6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair and a girdle of leather around his loins, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
Mar 1:7 And he preached, saying: After me comes he that is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.
Mar 1:8 I have baptized you in water, but he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
Mar 1:9 And it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
Mar 1:10 And immediately going up out of the water he saw the heavens rent, and the Spirit like a dove coming down upon him.
Mar 1:11 And there was a voice from the heavens: Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.
Mar 1:12 And immediately the Spirit drives him into the wilderness.
Mar 1:13 And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.
Mar 1:14 But after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,
Mar 1:15 that the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent and believe in the gospel.
Mar 1:16 And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon throwing a net about in the sea; for they were fishers.
Mar 1:17 And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will make you become fishers of men.
Mar 1:18 And immediately leaving the nets they followed him.
Mar 1:19 And going forward a little he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were also in the ship mending the nets.
Mar 1:20 And he immediately called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants they went away after him.
Mar 1:21 And they entered into Capernaum; and immediately, on the sabbath, he taught in the synagogue.
Mar 1:22 And they were astonished at his teaching; for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
Mar 1:23 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
Mar 1:24 Saying: What have we to do with thee, Jesus the Nazarene? thou hast come to destroy us. We know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
Mar 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him: Be silent, and come out of him.
Mar 1:26 And the unclean spirit threw him into convulsions, and having cried out with a loud voice came out of him.
Mar 1:27 And all were amazed, so that they inquired one of another, saying: What means this? A new teaching according to authority: he also commands the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
Mar 1:28 And his fame immediately went forth everywhere into the whole surrounding country of Galilee.
Mar 1:29 And immediately on going out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Mar 1:30 And the mother-in-law of Simon lay ill of a fever and they immediately tell him of her.
Mar 1:31 And he came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand. And the fever left her, and she ministered to them.
Mar 1:32 But after evening had come, when the sun went down, they brought to him all that were sick, and those possessed with demons;
Mar 1:33 And the whole city was collected together at the door.
Mar 1:34 And he cured many that were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons, and permitted not the demons to speak, because they knew him.
Mar 1:35 And very early while yet night, he rose up and went out, and went away to a desert place, and there prayed.
Mar 1:36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
Mar 1:37 And found him, and said to him: All seek for thee.
Mar 1:38 And he said to them: Let us go elsewhere to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth.
Mar 1:39 And he went through the whole of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues, and casting out demons.
Mar 1:40 And there came to him a leper, entreating him and kneeling, saying to him: If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Mar 1:41 And moved with pity he stretched forth his hand and touched him and said: I will; be clean.
Mar 1:42 And the leprosy immediately departed from him, and he was made clean.
Mar 1:43 And after charging him in a threatening manner, he immediately sent him forth,
Mar 1:44 and said to him: See that thou say nothing to any one, but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.
Mar 1:45 But he went out and began to proclaim it much, and publish the matter abroad, so that he could no longer openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places; and they came to him from every quarter.
