John Chapter 1

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things came into being through him, and without him came into being not one thing that is in being.
Joh 1:4 In him is life, and the life was the light of men.
Joh 1:5 And the light shines in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.
Joh 1:6 There came a man, sent from God; his name was John:
Joh 1:7 this man came for a testimony, that he might testify of the light, that all through him might believe.
Joh 1:8 He was not the light, but came that he might testify of the light.
Joh 1:9 That was the true light, which, coming into the world, gives light to every man.
Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world knew him not.
Joh 1:11 He came to his own country, and his own people received him not.
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, to those that believe on his name,
Joh 1:13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.
Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Joh 1:15 John testified of him and cried, saying: This was he of whom I said: He that comes after me has been advanced before me, because he was before me.
Joh 1:16 For of his fullness have we all received, and grace for grace;
Joh 1:17 for the law was given through Moses, the grace and the truth came through Jesus Christ.
Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.
Joh 1:19 And the testimony of John is this, when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him: Who art thou?
Joh 1:20 And he confessed and denied not, and confessed: I am not the Christ.
Joh 1:21 And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elijah? He said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? and he answered: No.
Joh 1:22 They then said to him: Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those that sent us: what sayest thou of thyself?
Joh 1:23 He replied: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.
Joh 1:24 And some had been sent from the Pharisees,
Joh 1:25 and they asked him, and said to him: Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
Joh 1:26 John answered them, saying: I baptize in water: in the midst of you there stands whom you know not,
Joh 1:27 he that comes after me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
Joh 1:28 These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Joh 1:29 On the next day he sees Jesus coming to him, and says: Behold, the Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world.
Joh 1:30 This is he of whom I said: After me comes a man who has been advanced before me, because he was before me.
Joh 1:31 And I knew him not, but that he might be manifested to Israel, therefore have I come baptizing in water.
Joh 1:32 And John testified, saying: I saw the Spirit descending, like a dove, from heaven, and it abode upon him.
Joh 1:33 And I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said to me: On whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, this is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
Joh 1:34 And I have seen, and I have testified that this is the Son of God.
Joh 1:35 On the next day again John stood, and two of his disciples,
Joh 1:36 and looking upon Jesus as he was walking, he says: Behold, the Lamb of God!
Joh 1:37 The two disciples heard him speaking, and followed Jesus.
Joh 1:38 Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them: (1:39) What seek you? They said to him: Rabbi (which is called, when translated, Teacher), where abidest thou?
Joh 1:39 (1:40) He says to them: Come and see. They came therefore and saw where he abode, and continued with him that day: it was about the tenth hour.
Joh 1:40 (1:41) It was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, one of the two that had heard from John and followed him:
Joh 1:41 (1:42) he first finds his own brother Simon and says to him: We have found the Messiah, which is, translated, Christ.
Joh 1:42 (1:43) He brought him to Jesus. Looking upon him, Jesus said: Thou art Simon the son of Joanna: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is, translated. Peter.
Joh 1:43 (1:44) On the next day he wished to go forth into Galilee, and found Philip. And Jesus said to him: Follow me.
Joh 1:44 (1:45) But Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
Joh 1:45 (1:46) Philip finds Nathaniel, and says to him: We have found him of whom wrote Moses in the law, and the prophets, Jesus, who is of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
Joh 1:46 (1:47) Nathaniel said to him: Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip says to him: Come and see.
Joh 1:47 (1:48) Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and said concerning him: Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile.
Joh 1:48 (1:49) Nathaniel said to him: Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him: Before Philip called thee, whilst thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
Joh 1:49 (1:50) Nathaniel answered him: Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art King of Israel.
Joh 1:50 (1:51) Jesus answered and said to him: Because I said to thee that I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? Thou shalt see greater things than these.
Joh 1:51 (1:52) And he said to him: Verily, verily, I say to you, you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
