Translated from the Sinaitic Manuscript

1 Peter Chapter 1

1Pe 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,
1Pe 1:2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, in order to obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his great mercy, has begotten us again to a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Pe 1:4 for an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you,
1Pe 1:5 who in the power of God are kept through faith to the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1Pe 1:6 In which you rejoice, being now for a little while, if need be, sorrowful in diversified temptations,
1Pe 1:7 that the proof of your faith, much more precious than gold that perishes, though tried by fire, may be found for praise and glory and honor in the revelation of Jesus Christ,
1Pe 1:8 whom not seeing, you love; on whom not now looking but believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorious,
1Pe 1:9 receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
1Pe 1:10 Concerning which salvation the prophets that prophesied of the grace that was for you, earnestly sought and inquired,
1Pe 1:11 inquiring into what and what kind of time the Spirit of Christ that was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings that were for Christ, and the glories after these;
1Pe 1:12 to whom it was revealed, that not for themselves, but for you, they were ministering these things, which are now announced to you through those that preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, into which things angels desire earnestly to look.
1Pe 1:13 Wherefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope perfectly for the grace to be brought to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1Pe 1:14 As children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to the desires which you formerly had in your ignorance,
1Pe 1:15 but as he that called you is holy, become yourselves also holy in all behavior,
1Pe 1:16 because it is written: Be you holy, for I am holy.
1Pe 1:17 And if you call on, as a Father, him who judges without respect of persons, according to each one's work, spend the time of your sojourning in fear;
1Pe 1:18 knowing that not with corruptible things, as silver and gold, you were redeemed from your fruitless mode of life delivered to you by your fathers;
1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb blameless and without spot;
1Pe 1:20 foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last of the times for you,
1Pe 1:21 who through him do believe in God who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
1Pe 1:22 Having purified your souls in obedience to the truth, to unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from the heart earnestly,
1Pe 1:23 having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by means of the word of God that lives and abides.
1Pe 1:24 Because all flesh is as grass, and all its glory as the flower of grass; the grass withers, and the flower of it falls;
1Pe 1:25 but the word of the Lord abides for ever. And this is the word which as gospel has been preached to you.
