Mark Chapter 1

Mar 1:1 THE beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Mar 1:2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send forth my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way;
Mar 1:3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Mar 1:4 John came immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance unto remission of sins.
Mar 1:5 And there went out to him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mar 1:6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey.
Mar 1:7 And he preached, saying: There comes after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.
Mar 1:8 I indeed immersed you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit.
Mar 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan.
Mar 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens parted, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him.
Mar 1:11 And there came a voice out of heaven: Thou art my beloved son; in thee I am well pleased.
Mar 1:12 And immediately the Spirit drives him forth into the wilderness.
Mar 1:13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.
Mar 1:14 And after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, publishing the good news of the kingdom of God,
Mar 1:15 and saying: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the good news.
Mar 1:16 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.
Mar 1:17 And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will cause you to become fishers of men.
Mar 1:18 And immediately leaving the nets, they followed him.
Mar 1:19 And going a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending the nets.
Mar 1:20 And straightway he called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, they went after him.
Mar 1:21 And they enter into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath he went into the synagogue, and taught.
Mar 1:22 And they were astonished at his teaching; for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
Mar 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,
Mar 1:24 saying: What have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene! Didst thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
Mar 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying: Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
Mar 1:26 And the unclean spirit, tearing him, and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
Mar 1:27 And they were all amazed; so that they questioned among themselves, saying: What is this? A new teaching, with authority! And he commands the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
Mar 1:28 And immediately his fame spread abroad into all the surrounding region of Galilee.
Mar 1:29 And immediately, having come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Mar 1:30 And the mother-in-law of Simon was lying sick with fever; and immediately they tell him concerning her.
Mar 1:31 And he came and raised her up, taking hold of her hand; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them.
Mar 1:32 And evening having come, when the sun set, they brought to him all that were sick, and those possessed with demons.
Mar 1:33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
Mar 1:34 And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.
Mar 1:35 And rising very early, by night, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Mar 1:36 And Simon, and they who were with him, followed after him.
Mar 1:37 And having found him, they say to him: All are seeking thee.
Mar 1:38 And he says to them: Let us go elsewhere, into the neighboring towns, that I may preach there also; for, for this I came forth.
Mar 1:39 And he was preaching in their synagogues, throughout all Galilee, and casting out the demons.
Mar 1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying to him: If thou wilt, thou canst cleanse me.
Mar 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched forth his hand and touched him, and says to him: I will; be thou cleansed.
Mar 1:42 And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
Mar 1:43 And sternly charging him, he forthwith sent him away;
Mar 1:44 and says to him: See thou say nothing to any one; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.
Mar 1:45 But he, going forth, began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the report; so that he could no longer openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places. And they came to him from every quarter.
